Where are classes held?
Classes are held at M-DO & the Toronto Tabla Ensemble Centre for World Music
and Dance which is located at 50 Spadina Ave. (Street Level)
- just south of King St., on the west side.
How do I get there by TTC?
There are several routes for TTC transportation to the studio:

Take the subway to Spadina station and then take the Queen's
Quay or Union streetcar south to King Street.
- Take the subway to Union station and then take the Spadina streetcar
north to King Street.
- Take the subway to St. Andrew station and then
take the westbound streetcar to Spadina Avenue.
How do I register for Classes?
Please download this registration
form and return the completed form with appropriate payment by mail or in
person, prior to the start of the session. You may also email the completed form
to info@mdo-tte.org however we cannot guarantee your spot in the class unless
we receive your payment.
How do I pay for class?
Payment can be made by cash, cheque made payable to M-DO, visa or
mastercard. Cash payments must be made in person, while cheques can be sent by
mail.

What is a session?
A session is usually an 8 week long grouping of classes. Sessions
run back to back throughout the year, including the summer. Existing students
must notify their instructor if they wish to continue classes for the following
session, they do not need to register online for the following session.
How old does a child have to be before they can start kathak classes
at the centre?
We recommend children be at least 5 years of age prior to beginning
kathak classes.
Do I need previous dance experience?
No - you can be an absolute beginner, young or old
What if I have studied kathak before?
We suggest that you come and watch a class. You may also contact

up an assessment appointment.
What do I need to wear to my first class?
Loose fitting comfortable clothing.
What will I learn in the beginning class session?
Introduction to the fundamentals of Kathak dance movements, its spoken
language, its rhythmic foundation, compositional work and historic context are
developed in these classes.
Who teaches the kathak classes?
Joanna de Souza and members of Chhandam
Dance Company teach the classes at the centre.
How long does it take to become a kathak dancer?
This is a very common question. With many variables. Individual success
in studying Kathak depends on personal ability, desire and commitment.
When do I get to wear bells (Gungru)?
Bells, which are available for purchase here at the studio, are appropriate
to begin wearing after the basic fundamentals of rhythm and movement are achieved.
Once I am a student at the centre to I need to register for classes
for the next session?
No. Once you are a student you register for the next session with
your instructor. If you are unable to attend the next session please inform your
instructor or e-mail info@mdo-tte.org
If the weather is bad will you cancel classes?
Please check the phone line 416-504-7082 ext. 1 for information about
classes and cancellations. Please leave a message on the ext. 1 voicemail if
you cannot attend class.
